Every listing earns its place. Here's exactly how we evaluate them.
VA Claims Help Finder uses a 5-point quality rubric scored on a 1–5 scale. Companies must average 3.0 or above across all five criteria to be listed. Most listed companies score 4.0 or higher.
Is the company or its staff VA-accredited? Are attorneys members of their state bar? Do they have verifiable professional credentials? Accredited VSOs and VA-accredited agents and attorneys score highest. Unaccredited private companies are scrutinized more closely.
We aggregate ratings from BBB, Trustpilot, and Google Reviews. We look at both the average score and the volume of reviews. We read the negative reviews, not just the positive ones — patterns of complaints matter more than outliers.
Does the company clearly disclose its fees upfront? Are there hidden charges? Is the fee structure legal under VA regulations? Note: Under 38 CFR 14.629, only VA-accredited attorneys and agents may charge fees for initial claims work. VSOs are always free.
We check for active or resolved complaints from the FTC, VA Office of Inspector General, state attorneys general, and BBB. A single complaint doesn't disqualify a company — a pattern of them does. Any company with an active federal enforcement action is removed immediately.
What do veterans actually say about this company in r/Veterans, r/VeteransBenefits, veteran Facebook groups, and other community spaces? Community reputation is a leading indicator that formal reviews sometimes miss.
The directory is reviewed and updated every week. Listings are re-verified quarterly. If you find outdated information or suspect a listed company of misconduct, contact us.
